What is worship like?

You will be warmly welcomed as our guest but we will not single you out or ask you to stand and be recognized.

Location

We have a Sunday morning worship assembly in our Auditorium. You may sit wherever you like.

Singing

The music is chosen and directed by our song leader, and everyone sings together "a Capella" (or without instruments). We believe you will be encouraged and inspired by the blending of voices in worship and praise to God through song. The words and notes of the songs are projected on a large screen at the front.

Prayer

The congregation participates in thoughtful, public prayers to God in the name of Jesus Christ. We know that prayer is an important part of our lives together as a congregation and as individuals.

Lord's Supper (Communion)

Each Sunday we remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. By eating bread and drinking grape juice in this community meal, we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Trays with unleavened bread and small cups of grape juice will be passed to everyone. They symbolize to us the body and blood of Jesus. If you wish, you may participate, or just pass the tray to the next person.

Contribution

Each week our members contribute financially to the ministries of the congregation. These funds are used to provide for the physical and spiritual needs of Christians here and around the world. We do not expect you, as our guest, to give unless you wish.

Bible Reading

Our worship time includes public reading of a portion of the Bible as a means of encouraging believers and listening to God. The scriptures read bring together a common theme central to the sermon focus for that day. We believe that God's Word is living and active and capable of impacting our lives today.

The message

Our preacher, Jeff Madison, will speak to us about the relevance of God and His word to our lives today. You can expect to hear stories of faith, topical lessons and lessons in which you are challenged to follow Jesus in your daily life. Important points of his message are projected on the screen.

Response

Following the message, an invitation is extended to anyone who wants to respond. This may include requesting a public or private prayer, confessing faith and putting Jesus on through baptism, or a desire to become a member of the Kirkwood Avenue family can also be made known at this time, or any other time.

What to Wear

You may dress as formally or casually as you want. At Kirkwood Avenue we wear all different kinds of clothes, from jeans and t-shirts, to suits and dresses. We would like to encourage everyone to dress modestly, out of respect to others.
